Opinion: On Liberal’s CP-Supported Tone-deaf Whining About “islamophobia”

In a mildly baffling but not altogether unexpected move, the Canadian Press published a one-sided piece today featuring Liberal-appointed Amira Elghawaby whining about “islamophobia” in Canada, which apparently some in positions of influence decided was a good day for an “International Day to Combat islamophobia.”

Predictably, there is no mention of the absolutely horrendous behaviour committed by Canadian-based islamists and their misguided supporters, which may have played a role in fostering this so-called “islamophobia.” This group has repeatedly engaged in acts such as firebombing churches and synagogues, shooting at Jewish schools, perpetrating violence, intimidation, and harassment against Jewish students, planning terrorist attacks, issuing death threats against children, and staging weekly “prayer” protests that block busy urban intersections and sometimes even block access to hospitals. Their actions have also included harassing Christmas shoppers en masse, chanting “Death to Canada” with clear intent while burning our flag, deliberately causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage, among other offenses.

Although legacy media (very) occasionally publishes pieces on the Jewish-Canadian experience, these articles often include a disingenuous justification for blatantly antisemitic incidents. This typically takes the form of statements like “tens of thousands have died in the ‘Zionist’ ‘occupation’ (or ‘genocide’) in Gaza,” without acknowledging that a significant number of those killed were terrorists and their families. Moreover, they fail to mention that the so-called “Gaza Ministry of Health”—which has a history of shielding terrorists as doctors and concealing munitions in hospitals—has grossly inflated casualty numbers by including deaths from natural causes or illnesses.

It is said that in war, truth is the first thing to die, but compare the actual victim in the conflict – a people who contribute heavily to science, medicine, and humanitarianism, and who have a strong historical claim to the land they inhabit – versus a settler-turned-aggressor that habitually initiates these conflicts, who has also carried out 45,000 terrorist attacks in the name of islam since 9/11 alone, and then revisit who in these wars of words should be more respected.

In the meantime, legacy media would do well to fact-check and verify sources, engage in critical thinking rather than follow a herd mentality, and begin using its old and tired collective head a little more when choosing to take sides.

Note: Given the degree of credibility either should receive in light of all this violence and antisocial behaviour, the lack of capitalization in “islam” and “islamophobia” is deliberate.
